Simeeonie Killiktee
Settlement: Lake Harbour / Kimmirut
(1973)
Simeeonie Killiktee was born in 1973 near Kimmirut, Nunavut. He was raised primarily on the land, living a traditional nomadic lifestyle. He learned to carve by watching his father Shorty Killiktee and his grandfather, mixing traditional styles with his own innovation.
Killiktee primarily works with serpentinite, but also carves soapstone sculptures as well. His work often depicts Arctic wildlife and daily life with attention to detail and an emphasis on movement. He uses combinations of polished stone and rough textured areas to create intricately detailed figures. Killiktee’s figures often include his signature muskoxen.
